DataBricks (2021)

electronics, concrete, metal

150x150x30

Like the first spearheads, humans not only depend on their tools, but also help define them. To capture this relationship I focussed on of the most vital tools in our current world and the main medium of my own practise. To question the computer as human’s most primairy tool, its nature needs to be discected.

I received a large amount of harddrives that were separated due to the confidential information that they carried. I wanted to emphasize the value of the information inside by encasing these little devices into concrete bricks. This act emphasizes their practical nature, but also destroys it. Their perticular shapes are meant to give volume and play between the border of aesthetics and functionality.
