Ever since the first spearhead, humans have made use of technology to improve their own limited capabilities. The human need for im¬provement has ushered in an age in which technology is learning to improve itself. In our quest to control our own development we’ve become more like the machi¬nes we create, while our tech¬nology becomes more human. Every new generation of automation seems to come with an inevitable period of existential dread for the human race. With technology taking over more and more tasks, we are left with the question of what makes us still human?
Quintus Glerum tries to capture this sense of dread by turning human behavior into a machinery process, focusing on one of the most defining human traits: the ability to Gossip. While now considered to be a negative trait, it once granted people the means to form entire societies. Glerum uses his background in animation to grant this ambiguous ability to a set of two CCTV camera’s that are in a constant back in forth exchange of information that may be perceived as gossip.
